Surrendering a Parrot When Out-Of-State

At Valleywide Parrot Rescue (VWPR), we understand that sometimes circumstances change and you may no longer be able to care for your feathered friend. If you’re not located in Arizona, you might feel stuck — unsure of where to turn or how to get your bird into the right hands. We’re here to help.

Valleywide Parrot Rescue is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to providing compassionate care and second chances to parrots in need. Even if you’re located in another state, there are ways to surrender your bird safely and responsibly.

1. Make the Trip Yourself

The best and most direct way to surrender your parrot to Valleywide Parrot Rescue is by making the trip yourself. You have two main options:

Drive: Many people opt to drive their birds to us, especially if they’re within a reasonable distance of Arizona. This ensures you can personally hand off your parrot to our team.
Fly with Delta: Delta Airlines is currently the only major airline that allows parrots to fly in-cabin with their guardians. If you’re farther away and driving isn’t realistic, this is a safe and trusted option. We’ll work with you to coordinate drop-off upon arrival.

There is no charge for intake if you are able to bring your parrot to us yourself.

2. Have Someone You Know Bring the Bird

If you can’t make the trip personally, another option is to have a trusted friend or family member transport the parrot for you.

Whether they drive or fly, we’ll coordinate directly with them to ensure a smooth and stress-free surrender process.

It is important to have good communication when planning out the trip.

Again, there is no intake fee if the bird is transported to us.

3. Arrange Transport Through Valleywide Parrot Rescue

If you can’t bring your parrot to us and don’t have anyone who can help, Valleywide Parrot Rescue can personally come to you. This is our most comprehensive surrender option, designed specifically for people who live out of state or have no other rescue resources nearby.

We understand that life happens — maybe you’re in a state without an active bird rescue, or your local options are full. Whatever the case, we’re ready and able to help.

How It Works

Contact Us: Start by reaching out and letting us know where you’re located.
Flat-Rate Pricing by State: We have a pre-determined pricing sheet based on your state, so you’ll know exactly what the transportation cost will be. This keeps the process transparent, simple, and fair.
Schedule Pickup: Once you’re ready to proceed, we’ll schedule a date and arrange all travel logistics to come pick up your bird.
We Handle the Transport: A trained and compassionate member of our team will safely bring your parrot back to Valleywide Parrot Rescue in Arizona, where they’ll receive expert care.

Please note: This Price List is NON-Negotiable. This is not a service we are trying to profit from. All fees are based on average costs and may be subject to rise depending only on specific city locations, seasonal travel costs, and availability.

Flights: Round-trip airfare for a VWPR team member
